Ziggy Marley coming to Archa

The son of Bob Marley will be in Prague for the first time

Reggae star Ziggy Marley is coming to divadlo Archa on July 31. The eight-time Grammy winner and oldest son Bob Marley will be performing for the first time in Prague, following up on his 2018 appearance at the Colours of Ostrava festival in Northen Moravia.

The Prague concert is presented under the banner Colours Selection.

“Reggae is a mantra and meditation. Reggae is rhythm and consciousness. Its potential is endless,” Ziggy Marley says. “There's always a way to go, there is always hope for the next sunrise, another second and another minute," he adds.

Like his father, Ziggy has taken on the role of a propagator of the message of love, positive vibrations, and peace. His innovative reggae blends catchy melodies with rock, funky, soul and pop.

His latest Grammy-nominated studio album, Rebellion Rises, released under Marley's label Tuff Gong Worldwide, is an appeal to community, activism and love. “The rebellion begins in the mind, the melody and the music. We are a conduit of that. The rebellion is consciousness. Now the consciousness starts spreading, we become aware and we rise,” Ziggy said ahead of the release of his new album.

He was born David Nesta Marley, the eldest son of Bob and Rita Marley. In Jamaican slang “ziggy” refers to a joint, and Bob Marley is said to have started using it as his son’s nickname. Ziggy, though claims it is because he and David Bowie shared the same first name, and Ziggy was a big David Bowie fan in his youth.

Ziggy began his musical career in 1979 before he was even a teen with the band Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers. In 2003 he embarked on a solo career.

Aside from music, Ziggy has been involved in with education and charitable work. He founded Unlimited Resources Giving Enlightenment (URGE), which helps children in Jamaica and Ethiopia.

In 2007, he became an official supporter of Little Kids Rock, a nonprofit organization that provides free musical instruments and free lessons to public school children in the United States.

He has made guest appearances on Sesame Street, singing versions of “Small People” and “Set Your Piggies Free.” He also did a voice on the 2004 animated film Shark Tale, making a joke about one of his father’s songs.

He has released an illustrated children’s book based on one of his songs, and a pro-marijuana comic book. His music has appeared in soundtracks of films and documentaries,

Tickets are available at GoOut, Ticketportal and Archa Theater box office.
