Robbie Williams to play at Prague's Letiště Letňany

Pop superstar's Heavy Entertainment Show will have Erasure as an opening act

Former boy band member Robbie Williams will be at Prague's Letiště Letňany on Aug 19, 2017, with Erasure as his opening act. Tickets go on sale to fan club members Nov. 9 and to the general public on Nov. 11 at 11 am (11:00 on 11/11).

The Heavy Entertainment Show Tour will begin in June next year and visit the UK, Ireland, Germany, France, The Netherlands, Italy, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Poland, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Austria, Switzerland and Russia, according to Robbie Williams' web site.

The graphics to promote the tour resemble those for a 1950s boxing match, and are based on the art for his 11th studio album, also called The Heavy Entertainment Show. The standard version of the album has 11 songs.

Williams' previous show in Prague was for his Swings Both Ways tour, and featured a giant prow of a cruise ship as a stage. The elaborate show, as the title hints, focused on his old-fashioned swing songs rather than his pop hits, although he did include some must-haves like “Angels.”

That was not his last appearance in Prague, though. He reportedly performed at a wedding in Prague's Palác Žofín in August. It was for the daughter of one of Russia's 500 wealthiest people. The same oligarch previously hired Elton John for a private party.

At a press conference to announce the Heavy Entertainment Show Tour he said he would like to play Glastonbury again, but did not think it would happen in 2017. Still, his schedule has those dates open. He also held out hope for a Take That reunion. “It might happen, who knows? But right now, I don't think so. A reunion at some point, definitely, but we just couldn't get our diaries to work in the next 12 months,” he said, according to media reports. Williams got his start with the group Take That in 1990.

He also said he was disappointed with the performance of his latest single, “Party Like a Russian,” but that he had not expected it to be a huge hit. “I thought 'Party Like A Russian' could have performed a bit better but I wasn't expecting to be in the Top 40,” he said.

The album Heavy Entertainment Show was released Nov. 4 on Columbia Records. It followed two singles, “Party Like a Russian,” released Sept. 30, and “Love My Life,” released Oct. 20. The album has had mixed reviews so far, getting four out of five stars from The Evening Standard and NME, but only two stars from The Guardian and The Independent. “There’s still no other British pop star quite as entertaining and unpredictable,” NME said in its review.

The mixed reception is unlikely to affect the upcoming tour, though, as Williams has a long list of hits to rely on to fill in the setlist. “Angels” will likely be there, as it is his most-performed song by far. Also in his top five to do live are “Let Me Entertain You,” “Millennium,” “Strong” and “Rock DJ.”

Williams began his solo career in 1995, after leaving Take That. He has sold more than 77 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling artists of all time. Six of his albums are among the top 100 biggest-selling albums in the UK He entered the Guinness Book of World Records for selling 1.6 million tickets of his Close Encounters Tour in a single day in 2006.

Aside from signing, Williams has become an ordained minister in an online church so he can officiate at weddings. He also has an interest in UFO and paranormal events, and claims to have seen them three times. This interest led him to meet Turkish American actress Ayda Field, who was featured in the UFO documentary that Williams did for BBC Radio 4. He now has two children from this relationship.

He has also won the most BRIT awards of any person in history, now at 18 counting ones he won with Take That. He also has a record 12 ECHO awards.
