Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds to play Karlín

The two members of the Dave Matthews Band promise an intimate acoustic show

Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds, also known as Dave and Tim, will be coming to Prague's Forum Karlín on April 2.

Not a lot of info has been released, except the that it will be “a series of intimate shows across Europe,” according to a press release. The tour will be acoustic, starting in London and wrapping up in Portugal. Their music has been described as a blend of rock and jazz fusion.

Matthews and Reynolds are both members of the Dave Matthews Band, which has been around since 1991 although Reynolds has been an official member only since 2008. He had toured with the band and appeared on several albums before that though, including the band's 1994 debut Under the Table and Dreaming.

Fans in Prague likely missed the Dave Mathews Band tour in 2015, as it went to Germany and Poland, but not the Czech Republic. The band celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2016 with a North American tour. 2017 is the first year since the band formed that it is not touring.

Instead, Dave and Tim will be on the road. In concert they play Dave Mathews Band hits, along with some solo material. Tim Reynolds released a new CD in January called That Way. The duo also released live albums 1999, 2007 and 2010. They first played together in 1993. “The duo is looking forward to returning for a very different kind of performance. During these acoustic shows, Matthews & Reynolds will be stripping down each song to its essence and telling stories,” their press release stated.

Live, the duo most often plays “Dancing Nancies,” “Two Step” and “Lie in Our Graves.” Other popular songs for them include “Satellite,” “#41” and “Crash Into Me.”

Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds in November headlined a benefit concert for the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe water protectors. The concert took place in Washington, DC, in a hall a few blocks from the White House. The four-hour sold out show featured speeches as well as music. Graham Nash was among the opening acts, along with Neko Case and Ledisi.

Matthews performed some of his more political songs such “Don't Drink the Water,” about both the plight of Native Americans and apartheid in South Africa, where Matthews was born.

At the end of January, the duo played a three-plus hour set of 27 songs at Sugar Land in Texas. “Dave and Tim’s chemistry is as potent as ever. The setlist plays like a greatest hits album, with a couple of Tim Reynolds' solo songs and classic Dave Matthews banter thrown in for good measure,” the website Jam Buzz reported. That show also kicked off with “Don't Drink the Water.” The encore included “Cry Freedom.”

Dave Matthews Band has ranked as the biggest ticket seller worldwide of the past decade. The band has sold more than 20 million tickets since it was founded, and a combined 38 million CDs and DVDs. It is the first group to have six consecutive studio albums debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

Lead vocalist and guitarist Dave Matthews released his solo debut, Some Devil, in 2003 and the single “Gravedigger” won a Grammy for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance. Tim Reynolds is a self-taught master of the sitar, solo jazz guitar, solo djembe, 12-string guitar, violin and mandolin, along with acoustic and electric guitars. In addition to his work with Dave Matthews Band, he records and performs with TR3, an electric trio he founded in the 1980s.
