Alter Bridge to play Prague in June
The band is supporting their latest album The Last Hero
American hard-rock band Alter Bridge will hit Prague's Forum Karlín on June 14 on The Last Hero tour. The tour brings all the fan favorites plus the band's last release called The Last Hero, which came out in October 2016 to place itself in the top 10 of the U.S. Billboard charts. The album has won two Loudwire awards for Best Rock Album and Best Rock Song.
“Every time we do a record, my only goal is for people to simply think it’s better than the previous one,” lead guitarist Mark Tremonti said on their website. “We pushed ourselves so hard last time, and we knew were going to push ourselves much harder here. When we brought material in, it had to outdo [our previous album] Fortress.”
Alter Bridge was formed in 2004 from the ashes of the band Creed by vocalist and guitarist Myles Kennedy, lead guitarist Mark Tremonti, bassist Brian Marshall and drummer Scott Phillips. The band burst onto the music scene that same year with One Day Remains, their Gold-certified debut album, reaching 750,000 worldwide sales.
In 2007 they released their second album called Blackbird, and three years later came out AB III, which gave them their first number one single with the song “Isolation.” In 2013, Alter Bridge released their album Fortress, widely praised by critics for the band's musicianship.
Last fall, after three years of inactivity in which Kennedy kept busy as vocalist and The Conspirators and guitarist Slash, and Tremonti devoted himself to his solo self-titled project, Alter Bridge released The Last Hero, marking the first band's top 10 U.S. Billboard position since 2004.
The Last Hero's sound is dark and consistent with Blackbird and Fortress, but the band kept things fresh by experimenting with new musical strategies.
“We don’t want to put out the same thing over and over again,” Tremonti said on their website. “There are three new tunings, and that helped keep us inspired. I’d never recorded on a seven-string until now. This is the first record where Myles planned out his solos beforehand."
Lyrics wise, The Last Hero reflects on people's feelings of disillusionment, confusion and frustration regarding their leaders and the current political situation of the world, and also touches on the narrative of heroes and their inspirational qualities.
The Last Hero was produced by long-time collaborator Michael “Elvis” Baskette and mastered by Grammy winner Ted Jensen.
Alter Bridge will do a quick New Zealand and Australia tour in April, and then return to tour the US until late May. The band will set foot on European ground at the beginning of June as headliners of Rock im Park in Nurenberg, Germany.
Their European tour will also include the Netherlands, France, the UK, Austria, Belgium, Luxemburg and Spain, and the band will also headline the festivals and Rock im Park, Download Festival and Hellfest.
