Rock For People starts July 4

One of the biggest festivals in the Czech Republic is also eco-friendly

The 2017 edition of Rock For People will take place at an airport near Hradec Králové in East Bohemia from July 4 to 6. It is one of the biggest festivals in the Czech Republic featuring names from all over the music world.

The headliners include South African alternative rappers Die Antwoord, American pop rockers Paramore, American indie pop band Foster the People, American goth metal band Evanescence, and Canadian post-grunge group Three Days Grace.

Die Antwoord was formed in Cape Town in 2008 by rappers Yolandi Visser and Ninja and masked producer God. The group is rooted in a subculture called Zef, and they combine alternative rap and rave. The group is known for the hits “Ugly Boy,” “I Fink U Freeky” and “Banana Brain.”

Tennessee-based band Paramore scored hits with “Misery Business” and “Ain’t It Fun.” Paramore’s current lineup features lead singer and keyboardist Hayley Williams, percussionist Zac Farro and guitarist Taylor York. They will be promoting their new album After Laughter.

Foster the People formed in California in 2009. The current lineup has lead vocalist Mark Foster, lead guitarist Sean Cimino, keyboardist Isom Innis, and drummer Mark Pontius. The band has two albums, Torches from 2011 and Supermodel from 2014. The group shot to fame with the song “Pumped Up Kicks” and had a later success with “Coming of Age.” The road-trip atmosphere of their music will be a great counterbalance to the sulkier artists on the festival's schedule.

Little Rock, Arkansas band Evanescence had hits with the songs “Bring Me to Life” and “My Immortal.” Amy Lee's operatic voice contrasts with the harshness of the group's electric guitars. The band won two Grammy awards in 2004, but after the 2011 Evanescence album was released the band gradually fell off the radar. Out of the blue at the end of 2016 the band announced a world tour. We can hope for some hits as well as some previews from the upcoming album Synopsis.

Three Days Grace was at Rock For People previously in 2015. The group broke through in 2006 song “Animal I Have Become.” Balancing on the edge between nu-metal and post-Grunge, Three Days Grace is epitome of the boom of sulky men with gravelly voices that occurred during the early 2000s. The five Canadians will dust off the inner emo in all of us for sure.

The headliners are just a sample of how diverse 2017 Rock For People is going to be.

Rock for People also tries to combine music and eco-friendliness. There is a Recycling Stage, where the organizers invite new talents to test their abilities with the instruments made out of collected trash. The Pedal Stage is powered by visitors riding stationary bikes. And if all that music is too much, there are chillout zones and bars to check out.
