Depeche Mode coming back for more

This will be the third time the band has brought a tour back to Prague

If you missed the recent sold-out concert from Depeche Mode, fear not. The band announced additional dates in Europe to return to places that just can't get enough, and Prague is among the lucky cities. But you have to wait until Jan. 31, 2018 when the band will play O2 Arena. Tickets go on sale June 26, with presale for Live Nation Club on June 23.

“By popular demand, additional European dates [have been] added to Depeche Mode's Global Spirit Tour. Depeche Mode are pleased to announce that, in response to overwhelming demand, the Global Spirit Tour will return to arenas across Europe. These new dates in Europe follow sold-out shows across the region this summer and will extend the previously announced fall tour of Ireland and the UK to mainland Europe, with additional dates to come,” the band stated on its website.

“The Global Spirit Tour is the band’s 18th tour and marks their first live performances in over three years. On the Global Spirit Tour the band will continue … raising money and awareness for Charity: Water toward their mission of providing safe drinking water to everyone in the world,” a press release said.

The album Spirit, the band's 14th studio effort, came out in March 2017. The show in January should be similar to the one that just happened at Eden Arena on May 24, except it will be indoors.

This isn't the first time Depeche Mode has played the same show in Prague. They were here twice on the Delta Machine Tour, again at both O2 Arena in 2014 and Eden Stadium in 2013. Before that, they were here twice on the Tour of the Universe, at O2 Arena in 2010 and Synot Tip Arena (which is actually Eden under a different name) in 2009. So a pattern seems to be emerging.

They played the city five times before that, stating in 1988.

The Global Spirit show at Eden saw the band in fine form, with an elaborate multi-level set with large video screens to show both the performers on stage and video clips. Highlights included “Barrel of a Gun,” an acoustic version of “A Question of Lust,” the new single “Where's the Revolution” and the classic hit “Never Let Me Down Again.” The encore featured “Walking In My Shoes,” David Bowie's “Heroes” and “Personal Jesus.”

The current lineup has been consistent for over a decade now, with Dave Gahan on lead vocals; Martin Gore on keyboards, backing and lead vocals and guitars; and Andy Fletcher on keyboards, backing vocals and bass guitar. Additional musicians join them on tour. Gore has been the chief songwriter since 1981, with Gahan also writing some songs.

Depeche Mode has sold over 100 million records worldwide, making them one of the most popular electronic bands.

Their first international success came in 1984 with the single “People Are People.” Their fame solidified later with the 1990 album Violator, which reached number two in UK charts and number seven in the US. That was surpassed with their 1993 album Songs of Faith and Devotion, which reached number one in the charts in both the UK and the US. The band over its career has released 53 singles and 70 music videos as well.
