This Week in Prague (April 30-May 6, 2012)
The city's best concerts, parties and other happenings over the next seven days
MONDAY, APRIL 30
Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish play Tipsport Arena. (Event Listing)
Cinematic Orchestra guitarist Stuart McCallum returns to Palác Akropolis, this time with his own quartet.
TUESDAY, MAY 1
May 1 is Labor Day, a public holiday in the Czech Republic. Closely linked with the Soviet era, the tradition actually dates back to 19th-century Chicago, where a general strike ended in the infamous 1886 Haymarket Riot. Post-1989, May 1 has become a day for rallies and demonstrations.
If fighting the power doesn't take your fancy, experimental Australian post-hardcore band Closure in Moscow top the bill at Chapeau Rouge.
WEDNESDAY, MAY 2
Together with a host of celebrity guests, The Tap Tap, an acclaimed Czech group made up of handicapped musicians, throw a "party on wheels" at Divadlo Archa.
THURSDAY, MAY 3
Slovak electronic folk duo Longital are the special guests at the latest Prague International Bluenight at A Studio Rubín.
FRIDAY, MAY 4
Australian guitar phenomenon Joe Robinson shows off his unique finger-picking technique at Palác Akropolis.
Austrian drum 'n' bass duo Camo & Krooked are the special guests at Roxy's Shadowbox night.
SATURDAY, MAY 5
Topping the bill at the Electronic Beats Festival Prague, The Streets' Mike Skinner plays a DJ set at Divadlo Archa.
Belgian dance/rock/pop group Hooverphonic bring an orchestra to Palác Lucerna's Velký sál (Great Hall).
SUNDAY, MAY 6
Amateur jazz musicians are invited to U Malého Glena for its weekly UMG Jam Session.
