Eats Everything @ Club Roxy Prague
Daniel Pearce eats everything. Garage, techno, bass, jungle, he devours it all – especially the bass
Perhaps that’s why his take on house music sounds so fresh in 2015; his palette is sophisticated, able to appreciate a wide range of diverse and interesting flavors. Like a master chef, he has people enjoying things they thought they never would, re-evaluating their entire taste in the process.
Pearce’s rapid rise to prominence as a DJ and producer is unprecedented. In just a few years, he has become one of the most influential artists in electronic music and sought-after DJs, his recent sets having reached almost legendary status. Now, finishing a US tour, a twelve-week residency at London’s XOYO, headlining his home-city’s festival Love Saves the Day and Manchester’s Warehouse Project, it’s safe to say that Eats Everything is the biggest house DJ in the world.
A few years ago though, things were much different. In 2010, Pearce was at a crossroads: he was working a soul-destroying job as a recruitment consultant, and despite having been involved in music for many years, didn’t seem to be getting anywhere. Spurred by his wife, who told him to give himself just one more year to either make it in music or fail, Pearce quit his day job and got to work. A couple of months later, he came out of the studio with Entrance Song.
“The reason I made that track was because I wanted to make something that had massive fucking bass, but still had groove,” Pearce told Trap Magazine earlier this year. “I’m forever happy that I made it; I wouldn’t be talking to you now if I didn’t.”
You’d be hard-pressed to go to a party in 2011 and not hear the track. With its dreamy vocal samples, nineties chords, and yes, that bass, the track didn’t just change the direction of house music, but the direction of Pearce’s life as well.
Since the triumphant release of Entrance Song, Pearce has done several mixes for BBC Radio 1, appeared at Glastonbury, and performed at some of the world´s biggest clubbing institutions. He’s been voted Best Breakthrough Producer and Best British DJ by DJ magazine in 2011 and 2012 respectively, and came in at number 13 on Resident Advisor´s prestigious Top 100 DJs poll in 2012.
Celebrated for his off-the-cuff DJ style, Pearce is one to go with the feeling in the air rather than stick to a plan. In one now-infamous story that took place in Ibiza, a casual lunchtime spin to forty people turned into a massive nine-hour party – a testament to his spontaneity, love for the crowd, and yet another reason why you shouldn’t miss his set on Friday, September 11th at Roxy.
His most recent release, Fries With That?, came out earlier this year.
