Metronome festival: Iggy Pop, the Kooks, and the Foals will be coming to Prague
Metronome Festival Prague, June 25th and 26th @ Vystaviste Holesovice
Big name stars like Iggy Pop, the Kooks, and the band Foals will be coming to Prague this June as part of a brand new festival. Named for one of the most well-known monuments in Prague, the Metronome festival will take place on the weekend June 25th and 26th in Vystaviste Holesovice. This festival will be on the same weekend as the United Islands of Prague festival, offering music lovers an opportunity to indulge a wide variety of musical tastes.
Besides the date, both festivals also share the same organizers. The organizers of the United Islands of Prague festival have decided to expand with this new festival in an attempt to give people a chance to discover new up-and-coming artists and experience performances from both foreign and domestic singers.
“Prague deserves to host a big music festival that connects urban atmosphere with a quality and exclusive music programming,” said one of the festival organizers, David Gaydecka. “We want to keep moving the festival forward every year, focus on the comfort of all festival visitors and offer them a perfect festival experience.”
On the domestic side of this experience, the festival will feature a unique show from J.A.R., who will be showcasing brand new arrangements and gospel choirs at the festival. Another musician of Czech-origin, Ivan Kral, who composes film music and who has collaborated with music legends such as Blondie and Patti Smith, will be singing alongside of Jiri Suchy on stage. Other domestic performers will include the Slovak singer Richard Müller, the band from Brno, Ghost of You, and the electro-swing quartet Mydy Rabycad.
Coming from England the festival will host the Kooks, who are a huge part of the British indie rock scene, and of course the band the Foals, who just released a new album last fall called What Went Down.
More new music showcased at the festival as well, as Iggy Pop will be unveiling songs from his new album titled Post Pop Depression. Iggy Pop will also be introducing a cross-section of his solo productions, particularly from his famous Berlin period.
Other international celebrities in the lineup include the German singer and multi-instrumentalist L'Aupaire, the Scandinavian band Get Your Gun, and Austrian saxophonist, Max the Sax, who has previously worked with electro-swing pioneer Parov Stelar.
The festival will be jam-packed with talent, and complemented by the United Islands of Prague festival as well. Attendees will be able to easily go in-between the two festivals and will be able to camp overnight in the nearby park Stromovka. Due to both festivals, music will fill the air on this weekend in Prague, making it an enticing draw for people from all over, which is exactly what the festival organizers want.
“I like the idea of people coming to the Czech capital for a long weekend, doing some sightseeing and spending their afternoon walking Prague islands and parks and listening to young and talented musicians at the United Islands of Prague,” said another festival organizer, Martin Vonka. “In the evening, they can take a tram to the Vystaviste and get to enjoy world-class music stars.”
Pre-sale tickets for the Metronome Festival can currently be bought through GoOut or TicketPro.
