Nickelback is back at O2 Arena
Lead singer Chad Kroeger had a vocal rest after surgery stopped the previous tournament
Canadian rock group Nickelback will be back Sept. 18 at 02 Arena. They previously canceled much of their 2015 No Fixed Address Tour after singer Chad Kroeger had throat surgery due to a cyst.
“With the proper amount of time, we hope to have him back stronger and better than ever before,” the band said on its website at the time.
In the spring, they announced new tour dates, with shows in 30 cities across Europe. The tour began Sept. 2 in Helsinki, Finland, and will end on Oct. 25 in Newcastle, England.
“Get ready Europe, we are bringing one hell of a loud party to our fans over there!” Kroeger said online.
The band's most recent album is the 11-song album No Fixed Address. In its first week, it debuted at number two on the Canadian Album Charts. Surprisingly, not much material from the album is in the new show. Their 2005 album All the Reasons — which had the songs “Photograph,” “Rock Star,” “Far Away” and “Animals” — provides the most material.
They have also been mixing their own material with covers of songs from Don Henley, Foo Fighters and Big Wreck.
The Canadian band is not liked by everyone. In May 2013, Rolling Stone magazine named Nickelback the second-worst band in the 1990s behind Creed.
When the band was in Australia, a local police force released a fake warrant against Nickelback for “crimes against music,” posting on their Facebook page that they were “on the lookout for these men who are believed to be impersonating musicians.” Nonetheless, the band has sold more than 50 million albums worldwide.
Nickelback, formed in 1995 is best-known for their 2001 song “How You Remind Me,” which was listed as the most-played song of the decade in the US, appearing on airwaves over 1.2 million times before the end of 2009.
The song is now used in a phone app to discourage people from calling their exes — by making one listen to a few seconds of the song before the call is connected.
So while some people apparently liked having a year-long Nickelback-free safe zone at arenas when the band was on hiatus, others might be impatient to see the band live.
Last time Nickelback came to Prague, in 2013, they performed to a sold-out crowd … we of course mean at a sold-out venue.
