Prague in Depth: Health - Abortion
Get to know the Czech health system
After 12 weeks, the request will need to be reviewed by a medical committee before it can be approved, and once gestation is into the second trimester, abortion is only permitted if the woman's health or life is in danger, or if there is evidence of fetal impairment.
For a woman between the ages of 16 and 18, her legal guardian must be notified, and present if she is under 16.
Mifepristone (RU-486), a pill which induces abortion, is not approved for use in the Czech Republic but is available in Germany and Austria.
"Morning-after" emergency contraception pills are available here, but only with a prescription, which could be problematic because they need to be taken within 72 hours to be effective.
