Salon Petra Měchurová joins Designblok

An installation at the salon will explore the heartbeat of the hairdresser

Salon Petra Měchurová is participating in this year's Designblok with an installation on the theme #HAIRDRESSINGHEARTBEAT, which symbolizes the beating heart of the hairdresser.

Designblok is the biggest fashion and design festival in Central Europe. It runs Oct. 27 to 31 at Prague's Výstaviště, but not all of the events and installations are there. Salon Petra Měchurová will present its installation daily during the festival at the salon at Králodvorská 12 in Prague 1.

Designblok presents work by young and well-established designers and design studios from across Europe.

The topic of Salon Petra Měchurová's installation is connected to the overall concept Desingblok 2016, which is sports. “Our passion for hair can increase the heart rate; our perseverance keeps us in good shape, just like competitive athletes who are constantly practicing and training to be the best. We win only with a good team and the support of the local people,” Petra Měchurová said.

The project called HD/Heartbeat is by visual artist Veronika Drahotová. HD/Heartbeat is expanded with the cooperation of video artist Barbora Johansson Pivoňková plus projections by Pavel Lukšan and 3D printing by Adam Jech.

The installation uses high definition video to capture the heartbeat of a hairdresser, which the salon claims is symbolic because the hairdressers have been the beating heart of the salon for 15 years already.

“The people around us are very important to us; we see them as an inspiration that is then put into our work. Often such people are like an impulse that pushes us in our work. It might be an interesting young model we comb, cooperation on a prestigious fashion designer's collection or an artist's exhibition that inspires us in our work,” Petra Měchurová said.

Hairdresing heartbeat is also the subtitle of the salon's blog, where they try to link all of these inspirations together — .

The the key events of this year's Designblok are concentrated at three venues at Výstaviště in Prague's Holešovice district: the Superstudio, the Openstudio and the Art House. “The industrial palace in Výstaviště Praha Holešovice will be turned into an extraordinary parade of well-known Czech and international brands and designers,” the Designblok organizers said.

Salon Petra Měchurová's installation is among the Designblok events in Prague's city center, which will have special exhibitions in galleries, pop-up shops and showrooms. Product and fashion designers will reveal their recent work in their regular places. Prague's streets will come alive with outdoor installations as well, and objects will be located around the historical part of the city, according to Designblok's organizers.
