Burgerfest 2017 - September 9 -10

The sixth edition will have some changes over previous ones

The sixth annual Burgerfest will take place Sept. 9 and 10 in Výstaviště in Prague's Holešovice district.

Jack Daniels remains the main festival partner, and the official name again is Jack Daniels Presents Burgerfest. The whiskey maker will have a large area again for people to relax in with their burgers and some drinks.

One change is that Staropramen will be taking over as the beer supplier and will be bringing some of its special beers like Mustang and Černá Barbora from their Ostrava brewery. Staropramen will also have its retro Airstream truck to pour draft beers.

Another new festival partner is the cooking channel Prima Fresh, which highlights food trends with cooking shows, recipes, and culinary experts.

Last year, people at the festival ate more than 4,000 kilos of beef and other meat, plus 35,000 burger buns of all colors and flavors, and washed it down with 80,000 liters of beverages.

Many new restaurants are joining this year and will have stands or trucks with burgers, grilled meats, and side dishes. The lineup isn't finished, but a few foreign burger stands and trucks will be mixed in among the Czech ones. The setup will also be a bit different this year to make it more user-friendly.

There will some special guest chefs to give demonstrations during the two days. Czech celebrity executive chef Dalibor Navrátil, who is a member of the French culinary society Chaine des Rotisseurs, will be giving some cooking tips.

There will also be an amateur cooking contest and other ways for the public to get involved.

The BBQ Pit Boys will also have members of several chapters in attendance. “This year we have a special guest from Brazil. Emerson Khan is a master and big fan of the BBQ Pit Boys. He loves to do burgers so he asked me if he can be part of Burgerfest, so he is going to be the main guest for us,” Jack Daniels Presents Burgerfest organizer Zdeněk Střížek told Prague.TV.

“Joe Barbosa is a part of the Las Vegas BBQ Pit Boys branch, BBQ Black Hole. And we got in touch with Bob Ahlgren [creator and producer] of the BBQ Pit Boys,” Střížek said.

More guests are coming from Sweden, the Netherlands, and Germany. “The lineup of the chefs is going to be great,” Střížek said.

There will be more than just food and drink. “There will be a lot of activities. A lot of crazy stuff,” he said.

On the live music stage, the headliner will be Tonya Graves, but she will be playing early to encourage people to come during the day on Saturday. Another big act is The Tap Tap, which has been around for 14 years and features musicians with disabilities.

A Metallica revival band and the group K2 are also in the music lineup.

Aside from supporting The Tap Tap, the festival is once again inviting the local Rotary Club, which will be selling burgers and using the money they bring in to support a wide range of charitable causes.

Since burgers are considered an American culinary institution, there will be some vintage muscle cars on display, including Ford Mustangs. Motorcycle maker Harley Davidson is among the festival's partners again and should bring some interesting examples of their wares.

Another American institution, grill maker Weber, will be back and having a contest to give away one of its models.

The day is a family event, and the kid's corner is going to be run by FunPark Žirafa, which will also be offering discounts on tickets to its 8,000 square meter park in Čestlice. Kids under 100 cm get into Burgerfest for free.

The Best Restaurants last year were Art Cafe, Black Dog and Koza Roza. The Best Burgers were Tommy's Food Truck, Hans Dalakorv of Sweden and TGI Friday's. But the winners this time will likely be a bit different. You can judge for yourself though.
