Ginfest by Barlife has its third edition

A festival aimed at lovers of gin will take place Feb. 24

Ginfest by Barlife will be held Feb. 24 for the third time in Vinohradský Pavilon. The festival of juniper-based alcoholic beverages is aimed at the general public. It is billed as “a true celebration of great juniper spirit where everyone is welcome.”

Visitors can enjoy a large selection of gins and tonics from all over the world in one place. The location is in the city center and is easily accessible by public transport.

As usual with events organized by Barlife, free guided tastings and educational seminars are available to help participants learn more about this juniper distillate. Topics covered by lecturers include history, production, mixability and current trends.

Workshops are free of charge to Ginfest visitors. However, the workshops have limited capacity so if you wish to visit a particular workshop, make sure to come early to get a better chance to take a seat. At Ginfest by Barlife people have the opportunity to spend a pleasant Saturday afternoon in the company of both well-established and less well-known gins from around the world. Of course, people will have the opportunity to taste the exhibited brands at favorable prices.

“The international trend for the popularity of gin is also evident in the Czech Republic. Its popularity is steadily rising and sales have been reaching new and new heights. New brands, both local and international, are entering the market, making the market colorful and creating new opportunities for this category, both within and outside the business,” Konstanze Kügler of the analytical company IWSR told Barlife.

“Thanks to craft brands, the premium segment of this category is also growing. In short, the obsession with gin will not leave the world or the Czech Republic for a while because it is only starting to gain momentum,” she added.

The festival follows after Gin Cocktail Week, which starts Feb. 16. Selected bars will offer a special gin menu.

The festival is organized by Barlife, a specialized bimonthly magazine that dates to 2004 and is primarily intended for culinary professionals in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Barlife, according to the British analytical company IWSR, is the “best beverage journal in Central Europe.”

The former Vinohrady Market, now Vinohradský Pavilion, was rebuilt in 2013 to create a three-story gallery for interior design. For this transformation, it was awarded the title of The Store of the Year by Czech Grand Design 2013.
