Get ready for Rumfest by Barlife

For the fifth time, rum will be celebrated in Prague

Rumfest by Barlife is a fun and educational celebration of genuine sugarcane rum aimed at the general public. This year, the event takes place for the fifth time and will be at Žluté lázně on May 19. Visitors can look forward to an extensive number of rums and cocktails that can be tasted for special festival prices. As is traditional in any event organized by Barlife magazine, educational seminars with top experts are a must this year, too, as well as a bartender competition.

“The category of rum has been on the rise since 2013 in the Czech Republic. According to monitoring by the IWSR, a British analytic company, rum consumption is increasing in the Czech Republic as well as France, Britain

and Germany, the last being the largest market in the category in Europe,” says Martin Kraut, the publisher of Barlife magazine.

“According to the most recent preliminary data, over 18 million liters of rum (counting all rum types – dark, light and spiced) were sold in our country during 2017, and another slight increase of sales is expected in 2018. After all, rum is among the most popular and widespread spirits, and it appeals to a broad consumer spectrum. This fact is further proven by every year's growing popularity of our Rumfest by Barlife event, which already takes place for the fifth time now,” he adds.

As many as 10,000 visitors have passed the festival gates during the events of the previous years and over 100 various rum brands have been presented, including new ones to the Czech market and rums otherwise unavailable in the Czech Republic.

Visitors can look forward to the very same this year as well. Seminars will again be held on interesting topics, two of them being led by Ian Burrell, a globally renowned ambassador of Rum. The event will also include the final round of High Five – Flor de Caña Mixtronomy Competition for bartenders. The competition is based on the idea of Mixtronomy, pairing of food and cocktails.

Throughout the afternoon of May 19, the day of the festival, visitors may participate in other leisure activities offered by Žluté lázně, located in Podolí along the banks of the Vltava river in Prague 4. It is easily accessible from the center.

Since 2004, the specialized magazine Barlife comes out bi-monthly. It is written primarily for gastronomy professionals such as managers and employees of companies of top categories in the Czech and Slovak Republics. IWSR calls Barlife is the “best magazine about beverages in Central Europe.” Barlife has already organised successful events such as Ginfest, Whiskyfest and Prague Bar Show.

The schedule of seminars and the list of exhibitors and brands are still being updated at

Tickets available on the websites of Rumfest and GoOut.
