Prague's Premiere New Steakhouse, George Prime Steak, To Open In September

George Prime Steak will serve only the highest quality USDA beef

George Prime Steak, Prague’s first “USDA Prime Beef” steakhouse, announced today that it will officially open its doors to the public from Friday, September 13th onwards, alongside the The Emblem Hotel, a revolutionary new design hotel in the heart of the Old Town. One of the owners, and architect of this vision, is Slovakian born George Betak, a Swiss-trained chef and entrepreneur, who gives his name to the restaurant.

George Prime Steak will be the premier, quintessential American-style steakhouse in Prague, and will use only carefully selected individual cuts from gold standard Black Angus “USDA Prime Beef”. “Prime” is the highest designation awarded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), with only 2-3% of the finest beef produced in the US being labelled “USDA Prime”. Unlike other steak houses in the city, the George Prime Steak selection will be limited to prime beef produced by a very few select farms in the American mid-west, where cattle are raised 100% naturally. This means that cattle are hormone and antibiotic free, ethically treated, and fed only high-quality corn-based feed. Each cut will be hand-trimmed and aged to perfection in-house, for no less than 30 days.

Although prime steak is the cornerstone of the George Prime Steak menu, the steakhouse will also give equal attention to its fresh and extensive seafood selection and chef-driven entrees. The wine list will encompass both boutique and well-known producers from around the world, and will boast the most comprehensive Californian wine cellar this side of the Vltava River.

North American-style steakhouses are becoming increasingly popular on this side of the Atlantic; Wolfgang Puck recently opened the hugely successful Cut, a premiere steakhouse in London, and MASH, a “Modern American Steakhouse” in Copenhagen, has been shortlisted for the Restaurant and Bar design award. In Paris, Joel Robuchon’s L’Atelier steak restaurant has recently been awarded two Michelin stars and received an abundance of critical acclaim. George Prime Steak will be the first to bring this highdesign steakhouse concept to the CEE.

About opening George Prime Steak in Prague, Mr. Betak commented:

George Prime Steak will serve only the highest quality USDA beef, hand-trimmed for the perfect cut, and aged in-house for at least 30 days. Anyone familiar with the delightfully tender, juicy, buttery flavour of prime steak will definitely appreciate the effort that goes into creating that perfect cut. We want this steak house in Prague to be the flagship George Prime Steak, as, long-term, we plan to expand further throughout the CEE.”

George Prime Steak will boast an all-star team of chefs and restaurateurs. The Executive Chef, Martin Hnilicka, gained his experience working at Prague’s highly regarded Celeste Restaurant, as well as others throughout the UK and in Paris. Its’ namesake, owner George Betak, has held ‘Sous Chef’ and ‘Executive Chef’ positions in some of the world’s finest establishments, working in Italy, Canada and Switzerland.

The atmosphere of George Prime Steak will match the fare, with an exquisite attention to detail in everything from the lighting to the texture of the materials. The space aims to cater to those looking for a fine dining experience in the evenings, but will also be a comfortable venue for business meetings in the main dining room, after-work cocktails in the lounge, and group functions in the restaurant’s private vaults, which were designed by internationally acclaimed New York designers. The space will accommodate up to 70 people, with an average meal costing about 1,000 CZK per head.

George Prime Steak is located on Platnéřská 19, in Prague’s Old Town. For more information on George Prime Steak, please visit, or contact [email protected].
