Snuggled between Revolučni and Florenc, Credo isn’t far from the old Terminal Bar in a melancholic part of New Town. Its decor is modern--with original pieces of art on the walls, big windows, and candles, vases filled with soft-colored liquids and cool origami menus — without being off-putting. The wait-staff is friendly and tactful and they don’t stick the wine cork under your nose and insist that you sniff. Your fellow diners might be models snacking salads after wrapping up their business around the corner at the Look headquarters; or savvy Prague gourmands hoping Credo’s secret doesn’t spread too far.
When you’ve settled into your table and think first about the wine and go with red. Credo features the best reasonably priced wine list in town with ten imported wines under 500 kč. Consider the Montepulciano D’Abbruzzo doc Umani Ranch (320 kč) or the Australian De Bortoli “DB” Shiraz/ Cabernet blend 2000 (390 kč) or any of the Frenchies.
The food isn’t outrageously delicious but rather uniformly good. I definitely suggest sharing the antipasti, one of the better versions in the city and the highlight of the menu, which is served for two (130 kč). The Mussels steamed with shallots and herbs and tomato sauce (135 kč) is also a winner. Salads clock in between 114-140 kč with two different ceasers on the menu.
For entrees the grilled salmon with onion mascarpone is tasty but if you’re on a first date you might worry about the residual effects of onion mascarpone when you go in for that goodnight kiss later on. Consider instead the venison or the chicken strips in tandoori sauce. Only the T-bone steak is over 300 kč.
Credo features just two desserts—chocolate mouse with vanilla sauce and crepes stuffed with fruit and served with chocolate sauce. Both are under 100 kč but you get what you pay for with these.
