Salon Petra Měchurová
From short sides to long fringe, pink color or a bob – the right hair style is only a cut away
Whether you are planning a wedding in Prague, attending a red carpet event, or just want to put a little spice into your everyday hair, Petra Měchurová and her talented team can help you find the right option. Styles, colors and cuts from classic to creative to avant garde – it’s up to you to decide which choice is best.
Petra Měchurová’s professional background
Petra developed her unique style by blending tradition with inspiration. As a young stylist, she enjoyed working with hair photo shoots because the 2D format allowed her to let her creativity run free. While working for one year in London, Petra saw hair design creativity at its height. “The atmosphere was young and ambitious. There was big competition among the stylists, and everyone wanted to bring something new to the scene.” In 2001, she became a brand Ambassador for L’Oreal in the Czech Republic.
In 2006, Petra was awarded the Hairdresser of the Year for the Czech Republic and Slovakia. A few years later, she became the first Czech female hairdresser to win the AIPP Grand Trophy (2009), the top prize awarded at the prestigious International Association of Professional Hairdressing Magazines. As a result of her international success, Petra became a part of L’Oreal’s international team.
Five years ago, she enlarged her Prague salon from a six seat studio to a spacious salon and founded her own training school for aspiring stylists. The Academy Lab Petra Měchurová provides individual trainings for stylists, seminars and trainings for stylist teams. It also ensures that Petra’s salon continues to provide top-notch stylists for her ever-growing client base.
Modern hair design & coloring trends
With 23 years of experience in the business, Petra transitions between styling, teaching and traveling to hair shows abroad to keep her own knowledge of the industry fresh and innovative. In an era where people are more aware of hair fashion and salons get feedback via ratings, comments and postings on social media, Petra believe that a stylist must be more professional.
As fashions change, so do hair styles. “Today, flat hair with wet roots is popular, while 10-15 years ago, it was all about volume. The Barbie hair. We still see some Barbie hair, but the trend now is going more natural, even in coloring,” Petra says.
Modern trends in hair coloring have brought softer colors in shades of gray, purple, violet, copper, orange and pink. The “ombre” technique or “strobing” the hair results in a more natural effect of blending colors with the hair. Ombre brings lots of different layers of color to the hair, while strobing uses wide strips of highlights to create special effects. Both trends are popular among her clients. When the terminological terms get confusing, Petra and her stylists use pictures from professional magazines to show clients how they can expect their hair to look when finished.
Men’s hair fashion has also changed remarkably in the past 20 years. Today, men are far more style-conscious in general, which means they also care more about their hair. For stylists who work with men’s hair, the Academy Lab prepares regular seminars like the upcoming “Barber’s Cut” to show what men want from a barber-style cut. The salon uses L’Oreal Homme Cover 5 to color men’s hair. The product is exclusively for men and offers coverage without detection, giving a normal, natural hair color.
Unlike many top level salons, Petra believes that each stylist should wash and prepare the hair of her client in order to notice the small details in hair vitality, texture and tone that will make the final hair design a success. “It’s important to know how much product to use and the condition of the client’s scalp,” Petra says. In order for the stylist to match the right style to the client, he or she must know how open the client is to creativity, what style the client has in mind, which length and how often the client wants to visit the hairdresser.
Short cuts mean more frequent visits, while longer hair requires a forward-thinking approach. For clients with “fringe,” who need to come every 2-3 weeks in order to keep their fringe looking fresh, the salon offers the updates for free.

At the salon, the price for a hair cut from a senior stylist starts at 1300 CZK (women) and 800 (men). Children 0-12 receive a 40% discount. For a senior stylist, book at least one week in advance.
