Blue Man Group coming to Prague Congress Center
The blue-faced trio of performers will be in Prague for the first time
Blue Man Group will be in Prague for the first time for three shows between April 20 and 22, 2018, at the Congress Center (Kongresové centrum Praha) as part of their world tour.
The show involves three bald men in blue makeup. The current show on tour is called an explosion of comedy, theater, rock concert and dance party all in one.
Blue Man Group began as three friends just out of college: Chris Wink, Phil Stanton, and Matt Goldman, who decided to follow their own path.
They developed a bald and blue character they called Blue Man, to rhyme with “human.” Originally the trio began with small artistic street-theater events in New York in the late 1980s, which grew into shows at downtown clubs and then full performances at the Astor Place Theatre in 1991, where the group has had a show ever since.
As with similar circus-type entertainment groups, there are now several teams performing at any given time across the world both on tour and at fixed locations.
The award-winning Blue Man Group show has been performed in over 20 countries and seen by more than 35 million people worldwide since 1991.
“A dynamic combination of art, music, comedy and technology, the show’s euphoric celebration of human connection has universal appeal for a broad range of age groups and cultural backgrounds. The show is continually refreshed with new music, fresh stories, custom instruments and state-of-the-art technology. Blue Man Group has permanent theatrical productions in New York, Las Vegas, Boston, Chicago, Orlando, Berlin and a World Tour,” Blue Man Productions said on its website.
The group is recognizable even to people who haven't seen the shows. Blue Man Group has served as the face of branding campaigns for Intel and TIM/Brasil and appeared countless times on hit shows like The Tonight Show, Arrested Development, Ellen, Schlag den Raab (Germany), WOWOW (Japan), and Caldeirão do Huck (Brasil), the website points out.
They are also Grammy-nominated recording artists, known for their contributions to various film and TV scores and multiple Blue Man Group albums, including their most recent called Three. The group recently published its first book, Blue Man World, “a visually stunning anthropological exploration of the curious bald and blue character,” according to the description.
Cirque du Soleil purchased Blue Man Productions in July 2017 and announced plans to expand Blue Man Group globally and to diversify the live entertainment production.
