Czech Nature Photo contest highlights to be shown

The best of nearly 1,800 photos entered in the contest will at the Czech Photo Centre

The best photos submitted to the Czech Nature Photo competition will be on display at the Czech Photo Centre from April 5 to May 13.

Photos in the contest have covered the categories of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and underwater life, invertebrates, Czech forest, Czech agriculture and countryside, animals in human care, nature in Prague and Czech nature. More than 100 photos that have been submitted to Czech Nature Photo this year will be exhibited.

The photographers who exhibit their photos at the Czech Photo Centre include Jiří Karbus, Vladimír Čech Jr, Igor Mikula, Ivan Mikšík and Michal Dobeš.

Dobeš won an award at the Digital Camera Photographer of the Year Award and was a finalist in the European Photographer of the Year Awards. Karbus is the winner of the Outdoor Photographer of the Year and the British Wildlife Photography Awards.

The exhibition curator and jury chairman is photographer Michal Krause, holder of awards in Czech Press Photo and Wildlife Photo Contests. The jury also included award-winning photographers Javier Aznar González de Rueda and Petr Bambousek as well as Prague Zoo director Miroslav Bobek.

The exhibition provides insight into the miniature universe located right in our neighbourhood, which each photographer presents totally differently.

In the accompanying program, some the photographers will be present the works during lectures. The Czech documentary film The Ark of Lights and Shadows, about the early 20th-century filmmaking adventurers Martin and Osa Johnson, will be presented by director and producer Jan Svatoš.

The results of the Czech Nature Photo 2018 contest will be announced at the Czech Photo Center on April 19. The competition had almost 1,800 photos from 252 photographers in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

The Czech Nature Photo 2018 exhibition will be open daily except for Monday.

In the small hall of the Czech Photo Center, an exhibition of macro photography will be held at the same time. There will be more than four dozen pictures by Milan Blistrak, Pavel Krásenský and Veronika Souralová.

The Gallery is located about 100 meters from the Nové Butovice metro stop at Seydlerova 2835/4 in Prague 5.
