WATCH: Hungarian PM Victor Orbán Booed at Reopening of Prague State Opera House

On Sunday Evening, Hungarian PM Victor Orbán was received with jeers and boos from protesters as he attended the reopening of the State Opera House gala event. Protesters shouted out ‘hanba’, meaning shame in Czech as he exited his private car.

According to lidovky.cz, Czech PM Babiš had invited neighbouring countries leaders; German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, Slovak PM Peter Pellegrini, and Polish PM Mateusz Morawieck, to the gala event. All politicians declined the invitation. Orbán has received domestic and foreign criticism for his radical right-wing stance.

Renovations of the theatre began in March 2017 and are estimated to have cost more than 1 billion CZK.

The January 5 concert gala titled State Opera in the Changes of Time (1888-2018) took place exactly 132 years after the formerly known New German Theatre opened. The concert was directed by film and theatre director Alice Nellis.
