JOJO RABBIT, shot in the Czech Republic, receives six Academy Award nominations (including Best Picture) and six BAFTA nominations!

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the nominees for the best in cinema for 2019 and among the nominees was Taika Waititi’s JOJO RABBIT which stars Scarlett Johansson, Sam Rockwell, newcomer Roman Griffin Davis, and Thomasin Mackenzie.

The film, which received six nominations from both the Motion Picture Academy in the U.S. and BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) in the UK, was shot entirely in the Czech Republic with stage locations shot atop the mountain at Barrandov Studios, and exteriors shot all over the countryside. The film was edited locally, too, with nominated editor Tom Eagles and his team working out of Universal Production Partners (UPP) in Vršovice.

JOJO RABBIT is a satire about a young boy in the Hitler Youth whose imaginary friend is none other than the Führer himself (played by the films writer/director). He’s forced to confront everything he believes in when he finds out that his mother (Johansson, who scored two nominations this year) is hiding a young Jewish girl in their attic.

While most of the department heads came from abroad, the bulk of the crew were Czech. Set Decorator Nora Sopková, who worked with Production Designer Ra Vincent, is one of the nominees.

Here are the six Oscar nominations for JOJO RABBIT:

  • Best Picture
  • Best Supporting Actress
  • Best Editing
  • Production Design
  • Adapted Screenplay
  • Costume Design

The Oscars will be broadcast live from Los Angeles on Sunday, February 9th.
