More madcap mayhem

Entering its 11th year, the Prague Fringe returns to Mala Strana with 42 shows over 9 days.

Running from Friday the first of June through Saturday the 9th performers from across the globe are set to delight festival-goers with an eclectic mix of theatre, cabaret, and music. Acts from as far a field as New Zealand, Canada, Spain, Greece, and Singapore will set up camp in the Festival's 7 unique venues.

Here's some tips on some top shows:

Winner of the 2011 Prague Fringe Festival Inspiration Award, Lucy Hopkins returns with Le Foulard. Described as "A tale, of sorts. Starring a woman and a scarf." Text-based, in English.

"A sweet treat for the eyes" states the Los Angeles Times, "well worth seeing", trumpets the News Tribune and "Epic Poem Explores Obsessive Love" touts the OC Register, Venus and Adonis is Shakespeare's hidden treasure. Staged by the award winning Shakespeare Orange County. Text-based and suitable for audiences over 13. More info and times.

Catch some physical theater from
Artimmediate (Ireland/Italy) in the Beesquit. Find physical comedy and eccentric live accordion in an hour of fun in a fast paced and very imaginative musical world.

The Spitfire Company (Czech Republic)
are a hot company right now making some very interesting theatre. (See their Bad Clowns or sneak a peek at their fire-breathing firetruck.) For the frinnge they are preseting the Voice of Ann Frank. Suitable for all ages.

Autojeu Theatre (England)
presents How to Climb Mount Everest. One man, one mountain, one outcome? A tale of embracing life sees one man’s epic rise from the doldrums of his office existence to a Mount Everest conqueror.
