Pilsen - European Capital of Culture 2015

The year 2015 when Pilsen was the European Capital of Culture brought more than 600 cultural events and interesting experience to the city. Thousands of tourists from the entire world came to visit Pilsen. However, this year´s attractive programme of cultural events is not at the end yet and certainly there will be many occasions and reasons to come back to Pilsen next year too. In 2015, Pilsen lived by culture literally every day and saying goodbye to the eventful year is planned for the weekend of December 8th – 12th. Visitors and tourists can look forward to many concerts, opera gala evening, photo exhibitions of the events of the year 2015 and also a snowboard show which will take place directly in the area of the creative zone of the DEPO2015. This area is newly devoted to various cultural events; nevertheless, in 2014 it was still used for parking of buses and trolleybuses of the Pilsen Public Transport Company. At present, it became the centre of the celebrations.

The programme starts already on Monday, December 7th, by a tribute to Frank Sinatra in the premises of Mestanska Beseda. On Thursday, December 10th, you can enjoy dancing in the DEPO2015 as the small dance orchestra UNIVERSAL will perform just for you. The Friday´s night is devoted to the opera gala evening. Together with the Pilsen Philharmonic Orchestra an exclusive guest will perform – Adam Plachetka, the leading Czech opera singer who is since 2015 a constant member of the Wiener Staatsoper opera ensemble and regularly concerts in the most famous concert halls all around the world.

On Saturday, December 12th at 3 p.m. a photo album made of pictures and experience of the year 2015 will start to be created and it shall be so long that it will accompany you from the Republic Square to the area of the DEPO 2015 where you can walk along the river and enjoy the company of musicians and smell of mulled wine or hot cocoa. Saturday in the DEPO2015 will be devoted to the non-traditional connection of snowboarding, art and culture in the industrial area. Eiki Helgason, one of the most famous current riders, took patronage over the event and thanks to his invitation many more famous snowboard riders will perform in Pilsen. Furthermore, you can look forward to high-quality gastronomy and a great after party.
