Since May 18th 1977, International Museum Day has been celebrated worldwide. The purpose of this event is to raise awareness on the importance of museums in the development of society. Almost 35,000 museums participate in the event in 145 countries in 2015.

This year the theme will be museums and cultural landscapes. The same theme will resonate at the General Conference of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) that will take place in Milan, Italy in July.
