Prague to Philadelphia flights start next year

American Airlines will have daily flights to the City of Brotherly Love

US air carrier American Airlines will have direct flights from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Prague and Budapest starting May 4, 2018, and running to Oct. 27, 2018. The airline also announced service from Chicago to Venice.

Daily service to from Philadelphia International Airport to Václav Havel Airport Prague will use a Boeing 767-300, and booking begins Aug. 21. The flights leave Philadelphia at 6:30 pm and arrive in Prague at 9:05 am the next day. From Prague, the flights leave at 11:30 am and arrive at 3:10 pm.

This new line will offer over 2,800 seats a week in the summer. Onboard, there are 28 fully-adjustable “lie-flat” seats available on the deck and for each passenger there are Samsung Galaxy tablets with movies, TV programs, games, music and excerpts from bestsellers.

Business travelers will also have an international premium menu prepared by British Michelin chef Mark Sargeant and his colleague Maneet Chauhan. There are 21 extra seats in the main cabin with more legroom.

“The introduction of a new line from Prague to Philadelphia is a clear proof that American Airlines is thinking about growing internationally and strengthening its presence in Europe,” Jim Butler, senior vice president of international freight and transport, said in a press release. “Philadelphia is our largest node in the northeast of the United States and can offer passengers in Prague a wide choice when switching to other destinations in North America or the Caribbean,” he added. From Philadelphia, passengers can link to 160 other destinations.

Vasu Raja, American’s vice president of network and schedule planning, said summer travel to Europe is very popular. “These flights will conveniently connect customers from two very important hubs – Chicago and Philadelphia – to exciting markets across the Atlantic.” he said in a press release.

Philadelphia airport CEO Chellie Cameron welcomed the new routes. “By adding these new destinations, American continues its commitment to PHL as our hub carrier. These new European destinations will enhance the options for passengers,” he said.

Václav Řehoř, chairman of the board of Prague Airport also said he looked forward to the new route.

“In the long run, we have been striving for another direct connection from Prague to North America, and I am glad that from May 2018 passengers will be able to use a regular daily service to Philadelphia. We will also get a connection with a key transfer point for follow-on flights across the US, for example, to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami or Boston,” he said. Last year travel between Prague and North America increased by 53.43 percent more passengers over the previous year. We assume that with the new line, which will be used by about 60,000 people per year, the interest of passengers will increase,” he added.

Budapest and Prague will be new destinations for American Airlines, according to the carrier. The airline currently offers service to Venice from Philadelphia.

American Airlines has been trying to improve its service and has already spent about half of the planned $ 3 billion that was allocated. It has been investing in "lie-flat" seats, ensuring international Wi-Fi access, expanding the onboard entertainment system, increasing the number of electrical outlets, redesigning airport lounges, and expanding the range of healthy food, cocktails and other snacks.

The carrier has been also expanding its service to Europe. This summer, American began service to Amsterdam and Rome from Dallas/Fort Worth, and to Barcelona from Chicago. American and its partners serve 23 destinations in Europe nonstop from the US with over 130 daily departures.
