City will buy 200 new buses

The air-conditioned buses will be more efficient than current ones

The Prague Public Transit Company (DPP) will buy 200 new buses over the next five years. They will be air-conditioned, equipped with cameras and have the capability to count passengers. Passengers will be able to pay by contactless card.

In total there should be 50 partly low-floor buses and 150 low-floor articulated buses. One partly low-floor bus will cost Kč 4.3 million and one low-floor articulated bus costs Kč 7.1 million. In total, DPP would spend more than Kč 1.2 billion for these new buses.

New buses should save on running costs by meeting the strictest emission limit. DPP will rejuvenate its fleet with this investment.

“If we want to keep the quality of public transport, we must also invest in fleet renewal. I am glad that the comfort of the passengers will again increase,” Mayor Adriana Krnáčová (ANO) said, according to Mladá fronta Dnes.

DPP signed a purchase order with Czech bus maker SOR Libchavy, which is based in the Pardubice region. Delivery dates and bus types will be specified after negotiations with the supplier. Deliveries will depend on current needs and funding, with contracts being concluded for a five-year period.

There are currently three hundred low-floor buses in the city's fleet. The transport company has 1,177 buses in 14 different models. Every year, buses carry some 360 million passengers on 142 lines, according to the DPP website.

DPP is also exploring the use of electric trolley buses. A track should be completed Oct. 15 on on Prosecká Street. When the electric bus will start service between Palmovka and Letňany has not been determined. Several different models of electric buses will be tested. Buses will be charged at Palmovka There were trolleybuses in Prague in the 1970s, but they fell out of favor.
