SCAT launching Prague to Astana flights

The Kazakhstan-based airline will fly between the two capitals twice weekly

Prague will have a direct connection with Kazakhstan when SCAT Airlines starts flying to Astana from June.

Kazakhstan’s largest carrier, SCAT Airlines, has confirmed that it will launch a new regular service between Václav Havel Airport Prague and Astana Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport.

The airline will fly twice weekly, on Thursdays and Sundays, to the capital of Kazakhstan with a Boeing 737 starting June 2, 2019. According to estimates, the new connection will serve approximately 24,000 passengers per year in both directions.

“The launch of regular flights on the Prague to Astana route is the result of more than one year of negotiations, with the participation of the embassies of both countries and the CzechTourism Agency in addition to Prague Airport,” Václav Řehoř, chairman of the board of directors of Prague Airport, said in a press release.

“In the long run, we are seeing the growth potential of Kazakhstan as one of the most important markets in post-Soviet countries. The new connection will be used primarily by Kazakh tourists, but we expect it will also help to increase tourism from the Czech Republic and the development of mutual commercial cooperation,” Řehoř said.

A new direct line to Kazakhstan will also allow passengers a convenient transfer to connecting flights to other cities in Kazakhstan, such as Almaty, Shymkent, Taraz, Oskemen or Pavlodar.

"We are confident that the interconnection of the capital cities of the Czech Republic and Kazakhstan will be a great contribution to the tourism development of both countries,” Vladimir Denisov, president of SCAT Airlines, said.

The airline was established and started operations in 1997. It has a fleet of 20 aircraft, half of which are in the Boeing 737 family. Seven Boeing 737 MAX planes are on order, with deliveries starting in the second half of 2019. SCAT has been flying to European destinations since March 2018.

Ticket sales will be available on the carrier's website www.scat.kz.
