Jinonice metro to close for most of 2017
Extensive repairs due to a leak will cause the station to be bypassed
The metro station at Jinonice on the B or yellow line will be closed for repairs starting Jan. 7. The repairs are expected to last until August. B-line trains will still run, but they will go through the station without stopping.
The reason for the repairs is a severe water leak. The first phase of the repair began in November, with tiles and ceilings being removed. The second phase will be more intrusive and require the station to be closed for the safety of the passengers.
In the meantime, passengers can use buses 137 and 149 from Nové Butovice to get to Jinonice. Those bus routes will have slight modifications to accommodate stopping at Jinonice.
A new route, bus line 153 has also been established, and the route includes Na Knížecí – Malvazinky – U Waltrovky – Jinonice – Vidoule. It will run every 30 minutes on weekdays.
The leak in the Jinonice station was causing damage to the infrastructure in the walls. Repairs will cost some Kč 145 million. New lighting and camera systems will also be installed. Artistic glasswork by František Vízner will be cleaned and but back into place. Other parts such as damaged tiles and ceiling pieces will be replaced with new ones.
These are not the only repairs to the metro system planned for 2017, but Jinonice is the only station that will have to be closed. Other repairs will take place at Opatov, Palmovka, Dejvice, Skalka, Muzeum and Karlovo náměstí.
The Jinonice metro stop opened in 1988. It was originally named Švermova after journalist and politician Jan Šverma, who was a communist activist as well as resistance fighter in World War II. Many places named after communist-era heroes had name changes after the Velvet Revolution.
