Tunnel closures planned for Ring Road

Two tunnels will be closed on separate weekends for technical workplace

The Prague Ring Road (Pražský okruh) will have some temporary restrictions that will make the route a little difficult to use on two different weekends.

This weekend the Cholupice tunnel (also called Komořanský tunel) will be closed in both directions. The Cholupice tunnel will close Friday, Jan. 13, at 8 pm and remain closed until 4 am on Monday, Jan. 16 at the latest due to technical work. Police will be monitoring the intersections at Vestec (exit 3) and Zbraslav (exit 10). Traffic will be diverted to highway D1, South Junction (Jižní spojka) and Strakonická street. Trucks will temporarily be allowed on the detour routes.

The reason for the closure is to replace the camera system. Work on that project has already started, but with just one tube closed at a time, and traffic in both directions in the other tube. The work on Jan. 13–16 is to test the entire system, and both tubes will need to be closed at once. Work will be done with the maximum manpower and in three shifts, so the closure will be as short as possible. The Road and Motorway Directorate (ŘSD) said it hopes to finish the work ahead of schedule, and possibly Sunday evening. It is projected to be definitely finished by rush hour on Monday.

Work will then move to the other side of the river. Starting Jan. 25, single tubes will be closed in the two-tube Lochkov Tunnel (Lochkovský tunel). The entire tunnel (both tubes) will be closed Feb. 3–6. The road will be impassible from Zbraslav to after Lochkov (between exits 10 and 15).

Both tunnels are key points of the Prague Ring Road, also called highway D0. Closures there are likely to cause traffic delays on the detour routes. Previous closures on the those sections of the roads led to difficult times for motorists.
