Libeňský most will be closed for tests
Car and tram traffic will be disrupted in Libeň and Holešovice
Libeňský most, the bridge joining Libeň and Holešovice, will be fully closed from Sunday evening to early Monday for stress tests. During the weekend tram tracks will also be repaired in the area up to Zenklova Street. Both actions will cause disruptions to traffic and tram routes.
Tram traffic will be disrupted on the section Dělnická–Palmovka–Ke Stírce from Saturday night at 4:30 am to Monday at 12:30 am for stress tests. Substitute buses X1 in daytime and X55 at night will cover the stops on the route. A temporary stop will be set up at Vtavska and the buses will cross the Vltava using Hlávkův most.
The tram lines affected will be 1, 3, 6, 8, 10, 14, 16, 17, 25, 52, 54 and 55. Tram line 37 from Sídliště Ďáblice - Ládví - Kobylisy will be added temporarily.
Libeňský most was closed last year in March for stress tests as well. The current tests will be less extensive, though. The bridge had been in danger of demolition, but the city in the end decided to preserve it due to its architectural value.
The bridge was saved in large part to to efforts of the public, calling for it to be repaired rather than replaced as it was associated with significant architects and is a unique example of a cubist-style bridge.
The concrete bridge was designed by architects Pavel Janák and František Mencl. It replaced a wooden bridge built in 1903. Libeňský most opened April 29, 1928, for the 10th anniversary of Czechoslovakia.
The bridge was originally Masarykův most, and during World War II was Baxův most in 1939 and '40, and then Libeňský most from 1940 to '45, then Baxův most again from 1945 to '52. It was Stalingradský most from 1952 to '62 and then Libeňský most since then.
