Pop-up markets offer holiday gifts

Several occasional markets will have designer goods, clothes and jewelry

People who want to avoid shopping malls and don’t like the selection at the Christmas markets have some alternatives. Several markets this weekend will be offering unique items, many times made by the vendor who is selling them.

If you haven’t finished your holiday shopping and want to support smaller retailers or local artists, some of these places might have something for you.

MINT: Prague Fashion Market

MINT: Fashion Market will be at Hybernská 4 from Dec. 8 to 10. The building, owned by Charles University, is becoming a center for events that reach out to the public. The motto of this edition of the market is “Don’t rely on Ježíšek!” In the Czech tradition, Baby Jesus and not Santa comes on Dec. 24 with gifts.

MINT: Fashion Market will have almost 100 local and foreign designers and brands, and many unique items. It will be inside the building, so it should be warm and dry. There will be some music, workshops and fun for children. This is the 20th edition of Mint Market, but at a new location that is more central, not far from náměstí Republiky and the Powder Tower. Entry is free.
