Prague in Depth: Shopping - Tábak/Trafika

Get to know the Czech retail environment

Found all over Prague, a tabák ("tobacco") is a shop where you can buy a number of different items, not just cigarettes.

Like newsstands, a tabák's primary trade is usually in newspapers and magazines, with cigarettes, alcohol, candy, drinks, lottery tickets and public transit tickets sold almost as an afterthought.

Near tram stops, bus stops and metro stations you'll often find a trafika, a small booth that sells a similar range of products to a tabák.

A trafika tends to be smaller than a tabák and always sells public transit tickets, but otherwise the difference between the two is negligible.
