Prague Fashion Weekend 2011 Preview
Heather O'Brien looks forward to September's unmissable two-day fashion event
Fashion is the science of appearances, and it inspires one with the desire to seem rather than to be.
September is one of those critical months when the fashion world gathers in grand cities around the globe to view runway shows, take inspiration from fashionistas, PYTs and glamoratzzis, and to buy the next season's trends for us dear consumers sitting at home and wondering, "what in the world will I purchase next season."
The city will be teeming with young bloggers and fashionistas all hoping to out-dress each other, land those prime front-row seats and have a coveted snapshot taken by those elusive glamoratzzi photographers that, like black Amex cards, seem to be everywhere the minute someone says "fashion week". Our fashion shows will once again take place on Prague's Fifth Avenue equivalent, Pařížská třída, during the weekend of September 24-25.
Top foreign brands and innovative local designers will be represented over the weekend, with equal attention being paid to both. Zuzana Veselá, Táňa Havlíčková, Hana Sedláčková, Beata Rajská and other established Czech brands will have their place in the spotlight on Saturday, September 24.
Nina Ricci, the youthful, feminine Parisian brand, will step onto the runway for a once-in-a-lifetime fashion show starting at 8pm on Saturday evening. If you cannot make it to Paris or New York for the Mercedes Benz version, this will be the place to be that evening.
Finally, on Sunday, September 25, the likes of Roberto Cavalli, the multi-branded store iBlues, Bogner and Viktor & Rolf, among many others, will be rounding out the "foreign" half of the program.
Keep checking back for updates and parties as we get closer to the event. This is certainly something that shouldn't be missed!
