Marni for H&M in Prague
The Italian designer's limited-edition range hits the Czech capital on Thursday, March 8
As many people know, I am not an ardent fan of H&M. Recently, the quality of fabric seems to have plummeted to almost disgraceful levels and the pricing strategy seems to differ quite substantially between the Czech Republic and our closest neighbors.
Alas, I am a sucker for a good, preferably Italian guest designer who will take my wardrobe to a heavenly level but will keep my wallet firmly planted on terra firma. Many guest designers have graced the H&M floor -- Versace was not my favorite collection and only confirmed my feeling about the clothing (I don't like it); Karl Lagerfeld was nice but had nothing that said "must-have-now!" Then, many months ago, a rumor emerged from the blogosphere that set my heart aflutter. Could it be true? Would Marni do a collection for H&M? Would she carry her signature mod-chic clothing and accessories into a price point that all ladies and fashion-conscious gentlemen could afford?
Thursday, March 8, the good name of Marni will drop into the Myslbek H&M off of Na Příkopě. The collection, backed by commercials filmed by famed Marie Antoinette director Sofia Coppola, takes us on a journey through Marrakesh. To plunge pools, rattan furniture, souks, palm-lined streets with the Atlas Mountain range in the backdrop alluding to a carefree and exotic destination full of beautiful people without problems. The fabrics are a mix of silks, satins, leathers, metallic lamé, and cottons in colors that are pragmatic and are easily changeable from day to night -- from pieces in the collection to the jeans in your own wardrobe, it's a collection that is wearable and functional. Colors like rust, orange, fatigue green and deep blue give a richness to patterns which are geometric, natural, and completely "Marni". The Marni man will also have his pick of wardrobe pieces which follow the general feel and aesthetics of the Marni women, right down to the smallest geometric detail. Art Deco- and Modular-inspired shoes, bracelets, necklaces and handbags will also be part of the collection, in colors and patterns both utilitarian and quirky.
Quantities are limited so if you are interested in bringing home designer looks for a small price then get to the store early. Out of 260 stores worldwide, the Myslbek store will be one of the fortunate few where you can buy these limited-edition pieces -- so happy shopping, think Moroccan glamour, and buy Marni.
