Farmers markets to restart at Naplávka
The popular market enters its eighth year on the waterfront
Farmers markets are set to resume at Naplávka at Rašínovo nábřeží on Feb. 4, with Czech farmers and food producers hawking their wares for the eighth year. The markets will take place every Saturday from 8 am to 4 pm. More themed events are also planned for the coming year to help attract more visitors.
The organizers are hoping for good conditions. “We must of course take into account the current weather and because we are not soothsayers, we do not know how if there will be frosty temperatures,” the organizers said on their website. They look forward to breads, syrups and preserves, cheese, meat and sausages, spices, and wine. It might be a bit early for many types of fresh fruits and vegetables.
Festival themes this year will include rose wine, small breweries, Easter and strawberries.
The popular farmers market at Jiřího z Poděbrad is set to return in mid-February, but under new management by a city-run company. A petition to return the market to the original private operator was not successful. Residents have expressed concern that the new operators lack sufficient experience, and that city-run markets were not profitable or successful.
The company Archetyp managed the market at Jiřího z Poděbrad since 2009 and paid Kč 100,000 per month to the city district. Their contract expired late last year.
Prague 3 officials say prices should not change at the market, and the incoming company will be able to run the markets smoothly.
Another popular farmers market is at Dejvice. Those will restart March 4 and run every Saturday from 8 am to 2 pm.
