Everton FC wins Generali CEE Cup

Two UK teams played in the finals at Ďolíček Stadium

Two teams from the UK competed in the finals of the seventh year of the Generali CEE Cup for under 19s. Everton beat Burnley 3:1 in the match held in Ďolíček Stadium. The tournament had 12 youth teams from around the world.

The match was launched British Ambassador Jan Thompson, and the British anthem was played.

Everton FC from Liverpool led Burnley, a Lancashire team, from the first minute. The Liverpool team eventually led by three points. Burnley tried to close the gap, but only managed to score one goal against Everton's defenses.

The game was played before a decent audience of 550 spectators on a slightly rainy evening. Besides seeing the English football duel, the audience also contributed to charity. Entrance proceeds were all donated to support a UNICEF project to help children at risk in Rwanda. “All tournament visitors have contributed to helping the neediest. UNICEF is grateful for this connection and thanks to the Generali CEE Cup for the opportunity to promote charity and our activities,” said Pavel Gomba, executive director of UNICEF in the Czech Republic.

A Children's Football Day was also part of the big finale in Ďolíček Stadium. The Living Solution Kid's Football Day organizers prepared artistic performances and various activities for children.

The week-long marathon tournament of under 19-year-old players in Central Europe was dominated by the Liverpool youths who played with a remarkable 15: 1 score. Agents and spectators in the auditorium were impressed by the six-goal shooter Ellis Simms, as well as by defense player Anthony Gordon, who allowed only one goal in four games.

Burnley also had a great performance in the tournament and managed to knock out the two biggest aspirants in the final. Sparta Prague was defeated by the English team in the basic group. They also beat Turkey's Altınordu FK after the penalty shot in the semifinals.

Czechs teams Sparta and Slavia won the fifth and sixth place. Sparta won the tournament last year.
