Czech rugby team playing New Zealand Ambassador's XV

For the first time, this rugby union match will count in official statistics

The Czech rugby national team will compete against the New Zealand Ambassador's XV. The event takes place for the fourth time on June 16 at the FCC Rugby Arena at Tatra Smichov. Kickoff is at 4 pm, but there is some fun before that starting at 3 pm with a traditional Haka dance and warm-ups.

The last battle ended with the New Zealand Ambassador's XV winning decisively. For this year’s battle, the Czech team will be looking for revenge.

Some 3,000 people came last year, and the same is expected again.

The ‘XV’ refers to 15 people playing on a team in rugby union, while other variation uses fewer players.

This upcoming match, unlike the previous ones, is officially recognized by sports governing body World Rugby as a test match and will be counted in international statistics. As a result, the match will also become a part of the Mid-Year Internationals.

There is also an Under 20 match on June 13 at the same arena.

The New Zealand Ambassador's XV Rugby team was founded in 2011 as a regular game in Germany against the German DRV XV Rugby team.

They now also play in the Czech Republic and the Netherlands.

The team has rugby union players with New Zealand heritage, and they regularly use former All Blacks as players or coaching staff.

They also have a new traveling uniform this year, made with traditional New Zealand designs.

The Czech Republic’s national rugby union team first started playing in 1993 after the split of Czechoslovakia and now competes in the European Nations Cup.

They have so far never qualified for the Rugby World Cup. The sport is still amateur in the Czech Republic.

The Czech team is ranked 31 of 102 in the IRB Rankings as of February 2017
