D+D Czech Masters returns to Prague

Top golfers will compete for spots on the European Ryder Cup team

The fifth edition of the D+D Czech Masters promises some exhilarating golf as the race for Ryder Cup selection hots up and some young rising stars hope to challenge some of the experienced champions.

Last year’s edition of the D+D Czech Masters marked the opening of the European Ryder Cup team selection process and this year’s tournament marks the end of a yearlong deliberation by the selection team. The tournament, to be held again at the Albatross course in Vysoký Újezd (10 minutes from Zličín), has therefore attracted some top players looking to take the last spots on the Ryder Cup team.

2016 U.S. Masters winner Danny Willett has confirmed he will join the field at the Czech Masters along with all previous winners of the Prague tournament. Thomas Pieters who won his first European Tour event here in 2015, has also confirmed his attendance. Pieters is keen to impress Ryder Cup captain Thomas Bjørn and force his way onto the Ryder Cup team in late September.

The D+D Czech Masters field includes other European top players including Andrew “Beef” Johnston who has become a bit of a cult legend in tournaments on the Continent as well as in the US, and it will be interesting to see if there will be cries of “beeeeeeeef” across the course.

Albatross will again be graced by the presence of Lee Westwood, John Daly, Matteo Manassero, Eddie Pepperell and Thai playing legend Thongchai Jaidee.

The D+D Czech Masters take place at Albatross Golf Resort on Aug. 23–26. Entrance is free to holders of Czech Golf Federation cards as well as those who present keys from a Škoda vehicle (entrance for two people), a Raiffeisen Bank debit or credit card, a GOPASS, a Tipsport betting ticket, a Nespresso Card, Plzeňský Prazdroj employee card or an Emirates Skywards card.

The Czech Masters village will again be the central focus of the tournament, besides the playing, and will again include multiple food options, shops and interactive activities including a golf academy from Lee Westwood.
