Matuška Day Vol. 2 coming to Kotlářka

Two Prague teams will meet for a double header topped with beer and burgers

American baseball fans can look forward to Matuška Day Vol. 2, to be held Aug. 18 starting at 2 pm at the Kotlářka Baseball Field in Prague 6.

The day will feature a doubleheader game with Kotlářka Prague playing their crosstown rivals the Tempo Titans in the Extraliga playoffs leading up the Czech Series. The first game starts at right at 2 pm and the second is slated for 5 pm.

Matuška Day Vol. 2 this time will feature two taps, one of which will be staffed by professionals from the restaurant chain Lokal.

“There were queues at the previous Matuška Day, which made me annoyed. Now it should all run smoothly,” chief brewer Adam Matuška said.

At the previous Matuška Day in June, some 800 liters of beer were poured, and Pivovar Matuška is ready to meet a similar demand this time.

“The summer is more advanced, so we have beers for later in the season like Summer Ale or the 10 degree Fast Ball. That one is a lighter beer and absolutely perfect when the sun is out,” Matuška said.

The selection will also include the strong Zlatá raketa, rated at 17 degrees and a 7 percent alcohol content.

There will, of course, be some food to go along with the beer. Burgers and hot dogs will be grilled by American-style restaurant Bejzment.

Adam Matuška has experience not only as a brewer but also on the baseball diamond. He played for Kotlářka in the past but has taken this year off to concentrate on his brewery. He doesn't rule out making a comeback though.

He said he hopes Matuška Day Vol. 2 will bring a lot of people out too the ballpark to create of good atmosphere for the important playoff games.

The day will also include some activities for young children, who can practice throwing and hitting balls.

Pivovar Matuška, established in 2009 in the town of Broumy, is one of the most popular small beer brewers in the Czech Republic. The craft beer, made with all natural ingredients and no added sugars or extracts, is not filtered or pasteurized.
