Letná ice rink more popular this year
The rink will be open to Feb. 24, and a ski trail is planned for Vypich
“Some 44,000 people visited it in the first month of the rink’s operation, which is an 11 percent increase compared to 2017. Great interest has been shown by schools, and a total of 230 school groups dropped by in December,” City Councilor Vít Šimral (Pirates) said.
The season at the ice rink has been extended to Feb. 24, thanks to the state-of-the-art technology that allows it possible to keep the ice rink operational up to 15° Celsius.
The rink also offers skate rental, skate grinding, a heated tent
The city is also preparing a cross-country skiing trail, which will be set up at Vypich in Prague 6. The operation will be based on the current weather. Last year, it started operations in about mid-February, but it was still very successful.
“I personally look forward to the fact that the people of Prague are abounding in sports possibilities, which is why I supported the intention of [the track at] Vypich for this year,” Šimral said. The ski park last year was visited by about 30,000 people and 44 schools.
The skating area at Letná is close to Milady Horákové Street opposite the Sparta football stadium. The ski park is directly at Vypich before the main entrance to the Hvězda summer palace.
