Take a Cycling Tour Through the Czech Republic

Those wanting not only to get out into nature, but to experience it outside the confines of a car, have the option of taking a cycle tour from Prague to various destinations, even in other countries. For those intent upon long-distance cycling, the Greenways route runs from Prague to Vienna, with bicycle rental available at various points along the route (Prague, Český Krumlov, Telč, and Mikulov are just four of the cities where cyclists can rent bicycles).

For those who would prefer a guided tour, Prague has a wide variety of companies to choose from, including:

PRAHA BIKE Guided Tours & Rentals

This company has a number of tours. Castles are well represented here – Konopištĕ, Karlštejn, and Průhonice can all be visited by cycle. Each tour is a day trip. More determined cyclists can take the Prague – Dresden tour (3 – 5 days) or the Czech Countryside tour, leaving from Prague and arriving in Český Krumlov four or five days later. The site also offers a Prague-Vienna tour that is self-guided.

Ave Bicycle Tours

Ave offers day trips to Karlštejn and a day-long bike tour around Prague. Long-distance tours include Prague to Vienna (8 days), Český Krumlov to Prague (8 days), Prague to Dresden, Prague to Salzburg, Moravian and Austrian Wine Trails, and Bohemian UNESCO Heritage tours. It also offers tours in Croatia and Italy.

We Bike Prague

Two tours of Prague are offered, in addition to day trips to Karlštejn and Okoř Castles. The Prague tours use e-bikes. For self-guided tours, the company offers Prague to Vienna, Prague to Dresden, and Prague to Berlin.

City Bike Prague

This agency concentrates primarily on tours of Prague, with one self-guided tour to Karlštejn. Custom tours are also available.

Top Bicycle Tours in Europe

Tours are offered for the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Central Europe. Czech tours include From Moravia to Bohemia, Czech Amber Trail, Czech Gothic Trail, and Moravian Trail (all of a moderate level of difficulty). The 8-day Šumava Mountains Trail, which travels from Domážlice to Český Krumlov, is rated “challenging”; it can be guided or self-guided.

The three tours of Slovakia are the Danube Trail (easy), the Romantic Slovakia tour (moderate), and the From Danube to Tatra Mountains (challenging). The Central Europe tours include a Stately Old Europe tour (taking in Hungary, Austria, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic), the Amber Trail II from Vienna to Cracow, the Danube Trail I from Passau to Vienna, and the Amber Trail I from Budapest to Cracow.

Czech.Bike.Tours

This is one for those who scorn day trips. Every tour offered is a multiple-day journey: Prague-Vienna Odyssey, Greenway II Mikulov – Telč – Český Krumlov, Best of South Moravia and South Bohemia, and more.

Clearly, any cycling enthusiasts visiting Prague are going to be delighted by the wide offer of tours (guided and self-guided) available to them. Those interested in going their own way would do well to take a look at the Friends of Czech Greenways website to learn more about the trails, the routes, and the places of interest along the way.
