Places to cool off outside of town

Its hot out there and you need to cool down? Here some places outside of Prague you can spend some great hot summer days... 


Built in the early 1950s on the Vltava, Slapy is the sixth largest reservoir in the Czech republic.  It extends south from the dam for over forty kilometres and is widely used for recreation.

It offers a range of activities: yachting, jet-skiing, windsurfing and swimming. You can swim from official camp beaches or find your own private spot.  Some popular camping beaches include Nová Rabyně, Ždáň, Měřín or Stará Živohošť.

Jezero Konětopy (new in our list, recommended by our user Sam, thanks for this tip!)

If you like sandy beaches, crystal clear water, that may be the place for you. around 40 minutes north east from Prague, Konětopy is a great place to spend a hot day with your family. Adults pay only CZK 50 a day and kids under 6 are free. Parking available.

Máchovo jezero

Lake Mácha provides recreation for thousands of people on its four beaches during the summer. There are tobogans, beach volleyball courts and other fun stuff on the main beaches in Doksy and Staré Splavy. You can rent boats, paddle boats and windsurfing boards as well.  You can even take a ferry ride for a tour of the area.

Lhota Jezero

If you like to show a little more skin while sunbathing, Lhota lake might be the place for you as more than a quarter of its sandy beaches are for nudists.

Facilities include beach volleyball courts, food stands, and showers.

At only 40 km away from Prague it could be well-suited for a bike trip.

Although farther afield Lipno has alot to offer. At 48 kilometers long it is the largest water reservoir in the Czech republic bordered by beautiful national forests and South Czech villages.  It's possible to take a dip wherever you want but sandy beaches can be found in the villages of Černá v Pošumaví, Frymburk, and Lipno nad Vltavou.

All the water sports are possible including canoeing, yachting, windsurfing, and kite-surfing. Rental places provide all the necessary gear.  The lake is also well known for its rich fishing waters. The lake is packed with carp, pike and perch.

Scared of getting swallowed by a giant pike?  Visit the inside pool in Lipno nad Vltavou or relax with a massage from their wellnes center
