Györi Eto FC win The Generali CEE CUP in dramatic fashion
Slavia Praha suffered last minute heartache in the final of The Generali CEE Cup
Slavia Praha snatched defeat from the jaws of victory as they suffered last minute heartache against Györi Eto FC in the final of The Generali CEE Cup.
The local Czech side had taken the lead on the stroke of half time when Lukas Marsalek forced the ball home; however, in a dramatic turn of events, the Hungarian youngsters drew level with a 87th minute penalty and with the match seemingly heading into extra time Györi Eto scored the winning goal to deflate the home fans.
Slavia Praha legends Karol Kisel and Martin Vaniak were in attendance and would have been impressed with the quality of football on show from both sides but ultimately left disappointed with the result.
The 2-1 defeat was a bitter pill to swallow for Slavia as were looking to make it three consecutive victories for Czech sides after Mlada Boleslav had won the 2011 and 2012 editions.
Nevertheless, Györi Eto FC were good value after an impressive showing over the last seven days and the highly polished 2-1 victory in front of the Eurosport cameras was a fitting end to a high quality tournament.
