An extra point decides AFL match in Prague

Prague Black Panthers beat the Danube Dragons 35:34

The Prague Black Panthers continue to ride a wave of success. The team defeated the Danube Dragons 35:34 on Saturday. For a while, it looked as if the Austrians might win. By the middle of the third quarter, when the Panthers were down 34:20, some said the Dragons would get the victory.

But after a pass from Kyle Newhall-Caballero to Jan Stiegler resulted in a touchdown (Stiegler’s third of the game) and a successful two-point conversion, fans began to suspect the Dragons might not overtake the PBP after all.

And, ultimately, they didn’t. Seven minutes before the game ended, Newhall-Caballero completed a 47-yard pass to Jan Dundáček, whose touchdown tied the game at 34:34. Marek Hrubon proved himself and successfully kicked for the extra point, bringing the score to 35:34. Dragons QB Alex Good launched another drive, which also earned a first down, but the Austrian team ultimately got stuck at the centerline. The last four minutes saw the PBP confidently take two new first downs and then let the clock wind down for the rest of the game.

After this latest Prague win you can safely assume that the Czechs, one of the major contenders in the Austrian league, are likely to stay competitive. It remains to be seen, however, whether the team, led by one of the league’s most outstanding quarterbacks, Kyle Newhall-Caballero (against Danube 20 of 30 for 322 yards and five touchdowns), who obviously plays "on another level," can succeed.
