Sparta Prague to meet Fluminense FC in final of The GENERALI CEE Cup

Generali CEE CUP Final 29th of July 2015 @ Stadion Viktoria Zizkov

After 1620 minutes of action, 81 goals, eight red cards and two penalty shootouts, the GENERALI CEE CUP has been narrowed down to just two teams as Fluminense and local side Sparta Prague do battle in the final on Wednesday evening.

The Spartans are looking to win the trophy for the first time and their route to the final has relatively straightforward - a perfect group stage record with 10 goals scored and none against gave them a semi-final tie against FK Sarajevo. Sparta were coasting 4-2 with 20 minutes left on the clock but they blew their two goal cushion as the match ended 4-4 - although the Czech side held their nerve in the resulting shootout to book their place in the final.

Meanwhile, Fluminense FC also needed a penalty shootout to seal their place in the final after a rollercoaster ride of a semi-final against FC Academy Pandev yesterday. The Brazilian youngsters thought they had done enough to win the match within 90 minutes but a late equaliser from Gjorgi Jovev ensured penalties followed.

FA Academy Pandev scored two of their first three penalties, while the Brazilians failed to find the net and looked on the verge of elimination. The tie turned dramatically on its head, however, as the Brazilian goalkeeper pulled off a hat-trick of remarkable saves and his teammates kept their cool to seal a memorable 3-2 shootout victory.

The group phase of The GENERALI CEE Cup was also packed with entertainment and goals too. Plenty of goals. Unfortunately, the long haul flight from Australia to Central Europe didn't help Olympic FC as they were knocked from pillar to post and conceded 14 goals in two group games. Then, to make matters worse, they were beaten 9-0 in the playoffs by local team Slavia Prague.

Nevertheless, it would have proven a valuable learning curve for the young Aussie's who face a final playoff game against Vasas Kubala Academy on Tuesday morning.

Elsewhere, the Swansea City U18 side were unable to advance to the finals of the competition but they did, however, participate in one of the matches of the tournament. The Welsh side shared six goals with semi-finalists FA Academy Pandev and showed plenty of character after trailing three times to earn a point.

The final of The GENERALI CEE Cup promises to be a special occasion if the previous week’s action is anything to go by. The match between Sparta Prague and Fluminense will be held on Wednesday 29th July at The Viktoria Zizkov stadium.

The gates open at 5pm and kick off will be at 6pm - but we suggest you get there early as there will be plenty of activities to keep the whole family busy - there is face painting and competitions for the kids while Prague.TV has teamed up with Hoffa Bar to offer a VIP cocktail experience at the match (Prague.TV Party for UNICEF @ the Generali CEE Cup Final 2015 - FREE entrance for 250 Prague.TV users). Tickets for the final are priced at 100kc and can be paid upon entrance with all proceeds going to UNICEF.

The final ranking matches for places 5th to 12th take place on Tuesday 28th July and will be free to attend. For further information you can visit
