Watch Sparta Prague host FC Schalke 04 in UEFA Europa League

05.11.2015 @ AC Sparta Prague Stadium Letna - 9:05pm kick off

European nights at Letna are always special occasions and none more so when Bundesliga side FC Schalke 04 visit the Czech capital this week. Sparta Prague will be rolling out the red carpet for their German visitors in this crunch UEFA Europa League tie. A win for Sparta will almost guarantee their place in the knockout stages.

But it will be a tough task against the free scoring Germans. Schalke have averaged three goals a game in the group stages of the Europa League and boast some of the best young talent on the continent.

Leroy Sane and Max Meyer are two exciting players that have enough talent to win matches on their own and all eyes will be on the team sheets before kick-off. Sane, the 19 year-old attacking midfielder, came off the bench and scored the equalising goal in the 2-2 against Sparta two weeks ago so they will be well aware of his capabilities.

Meanwhile, the German visitors can also call upon seasoned professionals like Eric Choupo-Moting and Jan Klass Huntelaar, with the 32 year-old Dutchman just one goal away from scoring 50 goals in UEFA club competitions!

But Sparta Prague have a proud home record in European competition and will have no doubts they can get a positive result on Thursday night. In fact, the only side to taste victory at Letna in the last 19 European home matches was Chelsea back in 2013.

Although Sparta will enter the game with a sense of regret after losing to arch rivals Viktoria Plzen at the weekend despite having a numerical advantage. Sparta, who still sit top of the Synot liga on goal difference, had the luxury of David Bicik saving a Plzen penalty and then Vaclav Prochazka was sent off on 42 minutes with the score still 0-0.

But they failed to create any clear cut chances while Plzen were clinical at the other end and won the match 2-1 to close the gap at the top of the league.

Nevertheless, Sparta Prague tend to excel when the bright lights of the Europa League are shining, having beat Thun and APEOL in both home European matches this season. Tickets are still available for the tie against Schalke and range from 1200kc-1600kc and can be purchased through ticketportal, further information is available at

Alternatively, you can cheer on Sparta from the comfort on your own home and tune into CT Sport for a 9:05pm kick off.
