Roger Federer heading to Prague to promote Laver Cup

Recent Australian Open winner and Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer will be appearing in Prague on Monday (20.2)

The 18 time Grand Slam champion will be arriving in the capital to promote the Laver Cup and meet fans at Old Town Square. The first edition of the Laver Cup will see a team of Europe’s finest tennis stars face a rest of the world side in a competition style similar to that of the Ryder Cup.

Federer will return to Prague again later in the year for the event, which will take place at the O2 arena on September 22 to 24. It will have been almost exactly ten years since Federer last graced the courts in Prague; he played in the Czech capital for the Davis Cup World Group play-offs in which his Switzerland team fell to a 3-2 defeat to the Czech Republic.

The European team captain will be Swedish legend Bjorn Borg and his counterpart will be American John McEnroe. The event, devised as a tribute to Australian Rod Laver, is set to be held every year in September, with the exception of the year in which the Summer Olympics occur. The 2019 edition of the tournament is to be held in the United States and afterwards will return to Europe.

The Swiss tennis ace previously tweeted, "I’m coming to Prague next week. What should I visit while I’m in town?" with Czech tennis player Tomáš Berdych replying that he will come and meet the Swiss star as he lives in the city. While in the Czech capital, Federer also plans to shoot a promotional video for the tournament.

"It will be a short visit to Prague; the main aim will be to inform fans about presale tickets for the Laver Cup,” said Charles Tejkal, spokesman for Czech sport.

“The main point of the visit will be meeting with fans at Old Town Square on Monday afternoon."

On the Laver Cup website information is available regarding ticket sales, which will begin in late February. The prices for the matches will range from 4,500 to 17,900 CZK. Tickets for individual matches will be sold subject to availability, and prices will start at 990 CZK.

The sale of VIP tickets in a section dubbed ‘West Lounge’ will cost around 27,900 CZK while in the Rocket Club tickets will be priced at 64,900 crowns.
