Kotlářka Praha Baseball starts with two wins at home ground Marketa

Kotlářka Praha beats Olympia Blansko 4:0 & 7:4

Kotlářka Praha southpaw, Jan Novak, was dominant over nine innings of shutout baseball, striking out 14 batters, walking three, and not allowing a single hit as the hometown heroes, Kotlářka Praha, toppled the extraliga newcomers, Olympia Blansko, 4-0 in the first game of the double header.

The game was very close early on with the only run coming on a solo blast by Kotlářka catcher, Daniel Vavruša in the third inning. All zeros on the scoreboard after that until the bottom of the 8th when Kotlářka bats came alive for 3 well-needed insurance runs. Novak came back out in the top of the 9th and shut the door on a very dominant performance which will likely not soon be forgotten. So big congratulations to Jan.

The second game was a bit more of dog fight after a brief rain delay postponed the first pitch by 20 min. Kotlářka Praha went up 1-0 in the 3rd inning but it was answered quickly by a 2-run home-run by Olympia’s Pavel Procházka.

With the score 2-1 Olympia in the top of the 5th, there was a questionable call by the home plate umpire, who ruled what appeared to be obstruction of the base paths on a short ground ball to pitcher, Jiří Vavruša. It seemed some Kotlářka fans in the bleachers behind home plate disagreed with the call and politely let the umpires know of their displeasure.

Olympia did a good job capitalizing on the opportunity and scored 2 runs to make the score 4-1. But Kotlářka came roaring back in the bottom of the 5th, quickly putting men on base and pressuring the Olympia defense. Then with a runner on first and second, Kotlářka catcher Daniel Vavruša came up huge with a big hit, sending a no doubt three-run homerun over the left field wall and giving Kotlářka and his brother, pitcher Jiří Vavruša, a 5-4 lead.

Jiří settled in with great composure and over the 6th, 7th, and 8th innings, the brothers Vavruša (Daniel doing the catching) thwarted off any offensive attack by the Olympia batters. Kotlářka scored another 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th on a big hit by Aussie import, Jackson Brebner. Josef Cihlář came in to close out the 9th inning and that’s all she wrote. Kotlářka sweeps up the second game of the double header winning 7-4.

Kotlářka players put on a great show. For baseball lovers, it was a fun day out at the ballpark.

Next chance to see Kotlářka Praha in action is May 6 with a double header against Technika Brno (13:00 and 16:00)
