The Dalai Lama to visit Prague for the Forum 2000 Conference
Forum 2000 - Prague, October 16-19
His Holiness Tändzin Gjamccho, the 14th Dalai Lama, is among the speakers coming to the 20th annual Forum 2000 Conference.
The conference was founded by former Czech president Václav Havel, and will be held October 16-19, 2016 under the title Courage to Take Responsibility in Prague and Other Central European Cities.
The life and work of Václav Havel, who was also an intellectual, an author, a political prisoner and a human rights defender, is an amazing example of taking personal responsibility for the state of public affairs and the world as a whole.
Nevertheless, today’s democratic leadership seems to be in crisis, contending with a lack of vision, responsibility, and perhaps even courage to lead. Are the current democratic systems unable to generate true leaders? Is the growing authoritarianism in the world a result of the weakness of democratic leadership? Where are the Havels, Churchills, and Mandelas of today?
“His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, is a great example of a personality at the helm of a nation in a dire and desperate a situation while remaining a paragon of tolerance, a moral authority and understanding human and political responsibility in the broadest sense,” says Jakub Klepal, Executive Director of the Forum 2000 Foundation.
The conference’s main program will be held at Žofín Palace. Visitors will also have a chance to meet His Holiness at a public talk on October 19. The Dalai Lama has last attended the Conference in 2013.
The Forum 2000 Conference is traditionally open to the public. Prior registration is required to visit the majority of discussions held in Prague. Registration is possible only through our online registration system from August 1, 2016 until October 7, or until full capacity is reached. Tickets will be available to attend His Holiness’s public talk. You will find continually updated information concerning the conference program, guests and registration at www.forum2000.cz/en.
